Time Is Like Whispering
"Time Is Like Whispering" is a photographic project about a lamentation of the relentless passage of time. The work reflects on a struggle of memories against forgetting.
Time as if the wind, whispers and passes by, beyond our awareness. In the wind of time, sand scatters, memories fade, rock flows like a liquid, and life goes on and ages us. Time slips away so fast, like in a transience. People may gradually forget what they experienced, how they felt and what they once cared deeply about. Memories become vague, fragmented and distinct from the actuality. Emotions also change over time and become indifferent toward things, people, and moments that were once important. Is it because our changing perception of time also alters our perception and connection of memories and surroundings?
This work symbolises the constant flow of time and its impact, conveying the fragility of memories and human forgetfulness. As a Hong Kong Citizen, through this work, I also reflect on the recent migration phenomenon in Hong Kong after a huge identical, political and cultural transformation over the years. Do we still remember? Are we being numb and indifferent to Hong Kong after leaving there? Nevertheless, we can only go with the flow and grow old, every fraction of a second fading after all and it is inevitable in the long flow of time. Yet there are things and moments that I don’t want to forget or be forgotten.
